Liverpool made an official bid worth £37M to sign midfielder Romeo Lavia but Southampton have rejected the offer and made a counteroffer.
The Reds are currently pursuing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia to bolster their midfield. Earlier reports suggested that the Merseysiders would submit a bid for the player to the Saints.
And now the latest report via The Athletic has confirmed that the south coast outfit has rejected the Anfield giants’ first bid of £37M.
The Saints are holding out for £50M. However, it seems that the clubs might be ‘open’ to finding ‘the right deal’.
Southampton rejects £37M Romeo Lavia bid by Liverpool
Journalist Sacha Tavoleiri elaborately reported on the Lavia situation on Twitter saying,
“We told you this morning that as official bid was expected soon…
I understand now that a 1st bid has been sent as per @David_Ornstein around 35M£ but with a counter-offer made today by #SouthamptonFC board of directors.
#LiverpoolFC wants to close the deal around 40M£ but #SaintsFC wants more but conversations are really open as the aim’s to find the right deal.“
However, he did not particularly disclose any detail of Southampton’s ‘counter offer ‘. He only added that ‘conversations are really open’. It hinted if both clubs come to a middle ground, the Saints are more than happy to discuss a potential deal.
The 19-year-old is already eager to join the Reds and has agreed to personal terms. So the only issue standing before completing the deal is the two sides agreeing to a transfer fee.
The journalist has suggested that it still remains to be seen if Liverpool make another offer worth £40M. However, the Merseysiders will try negotiating the price to the lowest possible rates.
Liverpool have to sign the Belgian international because players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho (still doubtful) are leaving Anfield. And to cover the defensive-midfield position, Lavia looks like the right candidate.
If the club is able to sign him for under £40M then it will be an absolute bargain. The next season could also see a new midfield with much more flair that was missing the previous season.
