Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested that Liverpool might sign a contract extension with Mohamed Salah which will enable a special release clause.
The Reds lost many senior players this summer. Also, they received quite a few offers for other players. But perhaps the most unsettling one has been Saudi Arabia’s interest in Mohamed Salah.
The Saudi Pro League previously signed several players from across the globe and towards the end of the summer transfer window, they targeted the Egyptian international. However, the Merseysiders were able to hold on to him.
Even though the Anfield giants were able to retain the forward, next summer could again bring more trouble from the Middle East. And the latest update from an eminent journalist has suggested what the club is doing to gain the high ground.
Mohamed Salah might sign contract extension with special release clause
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Ben Jacobs has predicted Salah’s future at LFC. He said,
“Liverpool would love Salah to extend his contract, but he will not be short of options in 2024. We know that the Saudi side will be back. That’s the first thing to say. It might be Al-Ittihad, but it could also be Al Hilal because the clubs are pretty changeable within Saudi Arabia.
So, Salah will get a giant offer from Saudi for 2024, that much we know. Liverpool are braced for that. But Liverpool are also just not going to roll over and let a top player leave if they think that there’s a chance that he might extend a little bit longer.
If Salah were to engage with Liverpool, it would be very defined and could be a type of deal whereby he could sign, and there could be a number that still allows him to go, or he could sign, and there could be a mechanism for him to talk to other clubs.”
Although the interest from Saudi is inevitable, the undeniable fact is that the league has failed to take off this season. So the Reds should have the upper hand here in steering the deal.
Liverpool could get three or four times more amount than when they signed him for £34M. But they should, in all ways possible, try and keep him at the club.
