The Reds will have a busy summer transfer window ahead of the beginning of the 2023-24 season. Liverpool starts negotiations for Khephren Thuram via John Schmadtke in order to bolster their midfield.
Liverpool Sporting Director John Schmadtke to undertake the Khephren Thuram transfer negotiation
According to a report by L’Equipe, Liverpool are interested in and have started their pursuit to sign French midfielder Khephren Thuram this season. The club has already shown that they will jump straight into signing players, especially midfielders.
Players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita & Arthur left the club this season. Although there are players like Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, and others but still they need to reinforce the midfield.
As per the report, a meeting between Liverpool and Thuram’s representatives has taken place. The French midfielder is reportedly interested to play under Jurgen Klopp. He is a box-to-box midfielder whose presence in the middle of the park will prove helpful for the Merseysiders.
The 22-year-old looked impressive while playing for Nice this season. He has made 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting eight. Thuram has also been a part of the second-best defensive unit in Ligue 1.
Although Nice did not have a great season, the Frenchman shined in that midfield throughout the season. He has earned a spot in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Schmadtke has joined the Anfield giants on a short-term deal. While speaking about his role in an interview with Sport1, he said,
“The input of the coach in transfers is greater in England than in Germany, where a sports board or a sports director holds everything in one hand. Klopp sets the priorities, we then work with data analysts and scouts, he will then choose from a list of players who he’d like to work with. After that, I will approach the targets and clubs. And in the end, the owners must also be satisfied with the investments…
…I’ll start on 1 June. If we like each other, the cooperation can go beyond the transfer window. Let’s see. Then we will continue this or not.”
According to Transfermarkt, Thuram’s current market value is, €32M. It would be interesting to see how Liverpool pulls this deal off.
