Liverpool are set to bring another central defender to the club, as Jurgen Klopp eyes a complete overhaul of his squad.
The new center-back signing will be a part of a huge rebuild in the Merseyside club. Liverpool currently lies eighth in the table and are far from reaching the Champions League spot.
Klopp eyes major changes to his team which is under the threat of missing out on European football next season.
New midfield blood is at the top of his shopping list. However, recent reports suggest that Liverpool cannot afford to compete for their primary target, Jude Bellingham.
After a disappointing season, the Reds realize the need for a center-back in addition to a star midfielder to address their deficiencies.
Star Croatian defender set to join Liverpool this summer
In a recent interview with Empire of the Kop, journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos has stated that a “center-back will come” to Anfield this summer.
“I’m at least 90% sure that a centre-back will come to Liverpool,”
Chorianopoulos said.
“Van Dijk and Konate are great players, but Liverpool wants someone after them, or a player that can play with them. So, I think there will be a centre-back.
Josko Gvardiol is a player that no one can say that he can’t star for Liverpool, he can play for Liverpool. But of course, he’s a player who has a big transfer fee also, around £80 million, which is also a big amount of money”.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Gvardiol in the past. Although, there has also been huge interest in the player from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Spending a significant amount of money on a third center-back seems unlikely for Liverpool. However, that can change quickly if the club is able to raise additional funds through player sales.
It is also said that the Reds are looking for a full-back cover.
