After welcoming two midfielders to the squad, Jurgen Klopp has asked the Liverpool board to make a move on Torino defender, Perr Schuurs.
After signing Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai this summer, Klopp is looking for defenders to sign now. There have been a few names in the form of Bastonis and Colwills. But now there has been a new name and that is Torino’s Perr Schuurs.
Reports have suggested that Liverpool are readying a bid of £34m for the 23-year-old.
Moreover, the Reds have been heavily linked with Chelsea’s Levi Colwill in recent days but Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a huge fan of the England youngster. Meanwhile, the club are keen to tie him down to a new contract, meaning any deal looks unlikely at present.
Liverpool may well sign one more midfielder this summer with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia top of their shortlist. However, it’s expected there will still be some money in the budget left for Klopp to also bolster his defence.
The first-team defence in Konate, Matip and Gomez didn’t live up to expectations last season. Hence, Klopp is now eager to strengthen his backline as well for the next season.
Liverpool aiming to sign Perr Schuurs
As per Tuttosport, Liverpool have already seen a £25m offer for 23-year-old centre-back Schuurs turned down. Additionally, they are ready to return with an improved £34m bid.
The Italian outlet claims that Klopp has wanted the defender, who had a trial for Liverpool when he was just 17.
Moreover, Klopp has told the board members to get the deal done at any cost. At just 23, the Dutch defender is able to play as an RB as well and is an attractive option for the Reds.
However, they could be facing competition from Napoli as well who are rumoured to be losing Kim Min-Jae to Bayern.
The 23-year-old had been tipped for a huge future after breaking through at Ajax back in 2018. Moreover, many are tipping him to become the natural successor to Matthijs de Ligt.
However, Schuurs struggled to live up to the billing and left the club last year for a fresh start in Italy. And he has made a huge impression since making the move, playing 36 times in his first season as Torino finished 10th in the Serie A table.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have also been linked with other defenders, including Goncalo Inacio, Colwill, Marc Guehi and Micky van de Ven. Although Micky is expecting to receive an offer from Tottenham over the coming days.
