Liverpool are required to replace their holding midfield position after Fabinho is reportedly leaving and Joao Palhinha is someone they have their eyes on.
However, Fulham have asked a fee of £80m for the Portuguese midfielder. Given his performance last season, one might say that it could be a fair evaluation.
But, comparing him to the other cheaper target such as Romeo Lavia, it doesn’t seem an ideal deal.
Palhinha to cost £80m for Liverpool!
As per The Daily Telegraph, Liverpool are looking to sign the Portuguese midfielder this summer.
The renowned news source has mentioned that the Portuguese international is also on the radar of West Ham. The Hammers have recently sold their main play breaker, Declan Rice, to Arsenal.
Despite his age, the midfielder brings great experience to the starting XI. However, his evaluation of £80m is a bit too much and looks overpriced.
The 19-year-old Lavia might be a better option at around £40m who could be groomed for the future. Also, under a manager like Klopp, the player would hit his peak soon.
This £80m transfer for a 28-year-old doesn’t make sense! He would be replacing a 29-year-old midfielder and would have 2 or 3 great seasons under his belt.
At the end of last season, the Portuguese midfielder was high on the Liverpool radar. He had a stellar campaign after being transferred from Sporting Lisbon.
The London side bought him for a mere £20m and have now set an outrageous fee of £80m.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are linked to the 19-year-old Belgian, Romeo Lavia. He is available for a price of £40m from the relegated Southampton.
The former City graduate is tipped to be the replacement for the 29-year-old departing Fabinho.
However, there are a few question marks over the Belgian’s experience to play at the top level.
After shining in the previous season with the Saints, the player is in high demand at the moment. There are speculations that City might as well trigger the buy-back clause and bring the player back to the first team.
After losing Mahrez to another Saudi club, Pep is looking for depth in the forward line. It is now to be seen whether Klopp would choose to splash the cash on Palhinha or go for Lavia.
