Manchester City have been handed an injury boost ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against 2nd placed Liverpool at Etihad.
Pep’s side will have Rodri available for Saturday’s clash after the midfielder started for Spain in their victory over Georgia.
The Spaniard had reportedly complained of discomfort earlier in the international break. Hence, he had been sidelined for the last week’s qualifier against Cyprus.
However, on Sunday he started Spain’s final Euro 2024 qualifier, playing 86 minutes. Thus, it could mean that the midfielder is likely to line up against Liverpool this Saturday.
Major boost for Manchester City against Liverpool: but another major concern?
Manchester City fans could be happy that their main midfielder Rodri could be back in the line-up against the Reds.
But the Champions could still be without their talisman, Erling Haaland. The striker sat out of Norway’s 3-3 draw with Scotland on Sunday evening.
The 23-year-old sustained an ankle injury against the Faroe Islands on Thursday while stretching for cross. Hence, he was deemed unfit to take part in Norway’s final Euro qualifier at Hampton on Sunday.
In addition to that, Pep could be still without Mateo Kovacic, Nathan Ake, Ederson, and Matheus Nunes. They could all be joining the long-term absentees Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, and Sergio Gomez.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have their own share of injuries with Konate out of the squad since the victory over Brentford.
He did not join the French National team for the ongoing international break as well. Moreover, his centre-back partner, Joe Gomez was also absent and is still unsure over his return.
Furthermore, Curtis Jones has been a long-term absentee just like Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, and Stefan Bajcetic.
With both the clubs enjoying great form, it would be interesting to see who would come out on top in this ‘game of the season’ fixture.
