Alisson Becker faced criticism from former footballer Dean Saunders for his performance in Liverpool’s recent 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
Despite securing a point with Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s late goal, Saunders expressed dissatisfaction with Alisson’s play, particularly questioning the goalkeeper’s decision to play out from the back.
Dean Saunders criticizes Alisson
Saunders, speaking on TalkSPORT, noted that Alisson, known for his world-class goalkeeping, seemed off his usual form and made reference to the goalkeeper’s involvement in assisting four goals for Manchester City.
The pundit raised the question of whether the tactical approach, playing from the back, was the manager’s decision or the goalkeeper’s choice.
“You should have seen Alisson [Becker] yesterday. He looked like he’d been on a ten-day cruise not on international duty.
Honestly, he’s a world-class goalkeeper but he made four assists for goals for Man City playing out from the back. But whose fault is it? Is it the manager or is it the goalkeeper?”
Said Dean Saunders.
Injury concern for Liverpool
The match against City was an unusual off day for Alisson, as acknowledged by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who mentioned the goalkeeper had picked up an injury.
Despite Alisson being widely regarded as one of the best keepers globally, the game at the Etihad Stadium highlighted his struggles, and Liverpool were fortunate to concede only one goal.
Concerns now shift to the severity of Alisson’s injury, with Liverpool fans hoping for a swift recovery as the team enters a crucial period in the footballing calendar.
