Liverpool are reportedly closer to beating Brighton and Hove Albion in the race to sign German midfielder Raul Paula from Vfb Stuttgart.
The Merseysiders have been one of the smartest clubs in the transfer market doing business throughout the years. This has again been proven when they completed their midfield rebuild within £150M.
The effects of their smart recruitment are already evident as they are moving forward into this transfer.
Apart from the signings for the senior team, the Reds have also worked behind the curtains to develop their youth set-up.
The Anfield giants signed many young talents this summer to enhance their youth team. And two of the most exciting and promising transfers for them have been Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo.
However, the club has identified another talent from Germany who is showing signs of greatness.
Liverpool to sign Raul Paula from VfB Stuttgart
Apparently, LFC are scouting Stuttgart youngster Raul Paula and are interested in signing the midfielder. This is via a Twiitter update by The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons. He tweeted,
“Understand that Brighton and Liverpool have been scouting Germany Under 18 midfielder Raul Paula.”
The former German U-18 international plays for VfB Stuttgart’s reserve team VfB Stuttgart II which competes in the German fourth-tier Regionalliga.
He usually operates on the attacking-midfield role but can flexibly play at central-midfield and left-wing positions.
So far in the 2023-24 season, the midfielder has appeared in 9 matches and has already scored 6 goals. His current market value is €75K which is definitely a bargain (Stats via Transfermarkt).
As the tweet suggests, the Reds will expectedly face competition from Brighton in order to sign the 19-year-old.
But hopefully, the club can land this deal with good connections with German clubs especially Stuttgart, from where summer signing Wataru Endo came from.
However, the concern that still remains is whether the German club would be ready to let go of Raul. Usually, they do not engage in the business of young players and like to retain them. So this will be a good tug to keep an eye on.
And for Liverpool, this signing could ensure that within the next few years, they would have an excellent world-class midfielder at their dispense without major financial investment.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
