The management board of Liverpool reportedly had an internal meeting recently to discuss winter transfer targets. The midfield and the defense will be a top priority for them.
The Reds are in a good place in the PL even though they drew against Manchester United last Sunday. Before the clash with table-toppers Arsenal, the club trails by 1 point behind them with 38 points in 17 matches.
Although the whole team’s performance has been excellent, most of the credit for the success goes to the midfielder rebuild. After the departures of senior midfielders, the addition of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch paid off.
As the winter transfer window is nearing day by day, the Anfield giants should be looking forward to signing new players for the additional boost needed for the second half of the season.
Plan for the winter market from Liverpool board
The sole focus of LFC after the extensive midfield revamp should be to strengthen the back-line. However, that is not the whole plan for them.
According to a report via CaughtOffside, the Liverpool board has had an internal meeting recently. The agenda of the meeting was to evaluate the transfer strategy for the winter transfer window.
As the no. 6 role is still not being fulfilled by anyone properly, Fulhams’s Joao Palhinha remains the top defensive-midfield target. Despite the interest from Bayern Munich, the Reds should secure the deal if they pay £40m.
The French duo Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone are also under consideration, as they have been on the watch list since summer. The Merseysiders are also reluctant to sign at least one defender this winter.
The club continues to monitor the situation of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. They are expected to face competition from Manchester City and Chelsea.
Another name that appears high on the target list of Liverpool is young Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio.
Plans for outbound players
Senior defender Joel Matip’s contract will end by the summer of 2024, and he will most likely not extend it. Long-term injured midfielder Thiago Alcantara’s contract will also end up simultaneously.
Star forward Mohamed Salah is also said to leave Liverpool in the summer after interest from Saudi Arabia.
