Liverpool have advanced even further on the Romeo Lavia signing as the latest reports suggest that the player would be available for a lower price.
The Reds will face a lack of depth in midfield as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho will move to Saudi Arabia.
The club is already short of midfielders as they let go of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita earlier this season.
Although the Merseysiders signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to rejuvenate the midfield. However, they still need at least one more signing to add depth to the squad. And talks of signing Southampton star Romeo Lavia have surfaced throughout the summer.
Earlier reports confirmed that Romeo Lavia has already spoken to manager Jurgen Klopp. And he has been admitted to play for the Anfield Giants. So reaching an agreement on personal terms should not be a difficult task.
Liverpool one step closer to signing Romeo Lavia
Now new report via Sport have revealed that Liverpool are “pressing” to sign Lavia. Arsenal and Manchester United are also rivaling for signing the 19-year-old.
The Belgian midfielder is highly in demand after FC Barcelona failed to get him on a loan deal.
The reason for that is that the Spanish giants wanted a loan deal with a chance to sign the midfielder on a permanent deal after one year. But Southampton will only accept an offer of a cash deal.
Previous reports suggested that Lavia would cost Liverpool around £50M. But the latest report claims that the Saints will accept a fee as low as £34.3M (€40M). This discount will cost the Reds £15.7M less than the fee reported earlier.
Given that the club captain Jordan Henderson and reliable midfielder Fabinho both are leaving Anfield this summer, the club could face some serious trouble. Although Lavia lacks experience, Jurgen Klopp could really use a signing like Lavia for the future of the club.
Thus, now it remains to be seen who will be the experienced midfielder joining the Red half of Merseyside.
