Liverpool continues with their summer shopping and the latest reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp has held secret talks with Chelsea academy graduate Levi Colwill.
The Reds have been one of the active members in the transfer market this summer. They have already spent around £100M in signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai as their midfield reinforcements. And now they look into signing some new defenders.
According to journalist Felix Johnston, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken with Levi Colwill about a potential summer transfer to Anfield.
The Chelsea starlet is one of the most exciting young players in England right now.
The 20-year-old defender was an important player of the England U-21 team that won the European Championship recently.
He also became a member of the Team of the Tournament alongside Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones.
Has Klopp convinced Levi Colwill to join Liverpool?
While reporting on this situation on Twitter, Felix Johnston stated,
“Jurgen Klopp has held a phone call with Colwill directly.
Chelsea are extremely angered by Brighton & Liverpool’s persistence, as they have said many times directly that Levi is not for sale
Chelsea are contemplating reporting Liverpool to the FA.”
However, Chelsea are not much happy with the situation. They will want to retain the defender as Mauricio Pochettino takes charge of the London side. He would have to convince the 20-year-old with ample amount of playtime.
Colwill joined Brighton on loan from Chelsea last season in hopes of getting more playtime and gaining experience. But he could not replace Lewis Dunk or Adam Webster in the starting lineup. However, he still made 13 starts in PL and was subbed on 4 times.
The English defender averaged 0.5 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, and 2.2 clearances per game. So it is quite evident that his defensive prowess is quite dependable and impressive.
Liverpool are in dire need of signing a new midfielder as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho might be leaving Anfield this summer. And for that, the club needs to gather some money. Even if they choose to sign Colwill, it would not be so hard as he is a Liverpool supporter.
