Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Diogo Jota is now back in training despite not being told that the Liverpool forward would be returning.
The Portuguese international has been out for the Reds since their 1-1 draw against Manchester City. However, there were initial fears that he would be out for even further.
But now to everyone’s surprise, even Klopp, the number 20 is back in training for the Reds. The £45m forward has been spotted at Kirkby, which has taken the Liverpool boss by surprise.
Diogo Jota back in Liverpool training after injury
Although Jota is back in training, he is unlikely to feature against Sheffield United. But the winger’s return is a boost, nevertheless.
Moreover, with the Reds heading into the festive period, his return proves extremely vital.
While speaking to the press today, the German expressed his shock at seeing Jota back in training.
“Diogo Jota was out running yesterday on his birthday, so hopefully everything goes in the right direction. Nobody told me he would be back in team training today, but there’s still some time left.”
Said Klopp.
Jota is one of the most reliable players in Liverpool’s attacking ranks. The forward being back as early as this weekend could be huge for Klopp and his Premier League title dream.
The number 20 offers an incredible amount of versatility in attack for the Reds. Moreover, he could cover essentially every position across the front line.
And Jota returning soon will be a welcome boost for Klopp. Moreover, having lost Matip on the weekend and is starting to feel the strain of fixture congestion, it would be great.
The Reds face Sheffield United next which is relatively an easier game for them. Their relatively harder draw is against Manchester United as they welcome them to Anfield 10 days later.
