Former Irish footballer turned pundit Stephen Kelly has voiced his opinion about Liverpool by saying the Reds are better at pressing than Manchester City.

The Reds are rightfully back in form after a disastrous last season. The club finished 5th last season in the PL which resulted in them missing out on Champions League football.

But the Merseyside giants have bounced back from last season’s failure. So far in this season, they have only lost one match which was the controversial defeat against Tottenham Hotspurs.

Moreover, they secured a 4-3 victory in a dramatic match against Fulham on Sunday. This win helped them to take over Manchester City. Also, they are only 2 points behind Arsenal who are currently at the top of the table.

Stephen Kelly praises Liverpool and their pressing

Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, the BBC pundit spoke about the success of LFC. He commented,

“We talk about pressing and energy, Man City and Tottenham do it, but Liverpool did it first, and now that he’s energised the middle of the park, they do it even better, it’s a tough place to get anything.”

It is very true that Jurgen Klopp brought the ‘heavy metal’ style of football to the PL when he arrived back in 2015. His philosophy about football is to counter-press the opposition to regain possession and to counter-attack as soon as the possession is regained.

The German’s particular style of football has led to the Anfield giants winning major trophies across Europe. Klopp helped the team to win their first PL title after 30 years in 2020.

‘Because he can win’: Gary Neville believes one man is keeping Liverpool alive in the PL title race

One of the main reasons why the Merseysiders could not do well last season was because the team could not execute Klopp’s strategy of counter-press and counter-attack.

However, with the reinforcements this season, they have finally found their rhythm back and hopefully will continue to challenge for the title with full power.
