Former Liverpool striker, Ian Rush has advised Mohamed Salah to not leave the club as he did back in 1996 when he left Anfield for Leeds.
The Egyptian recently reached a landmark of 200 goals with his equaliser against Crystal Palace. Moreover, he already has 15 goals in 24 games for the Reds this season, across all competitions.
However, the winger was heavily linked to a move to the Saudi club, Al-Ittihad in the summer. The Pro League club offered a record £150million for the record goal scorer.
Moreover, Salah was even offered a reported £100m basic salary, a private jet and the chance to buy shares in the club later down the line. However, the move collapsed as Liverpool considered Salah too important to sell.
But there is still a chance for Salah to join the Middle Eastern club this summer. However, legendary striker, Ian Rush has advised Salah to stay at Anfield.
Ian Rush advises Mo Salah to stay at Liverpool
Ian Rush left Liverpool to join Leeds United in 1996 and has advised Salah not to do the same while talking to Liverpool Echo.
“I’d love him to sign a new contract, it’d be great. He’s got another year after this. He’s a perfect professional and the younger players can learn from him. I’d love him to extend his contract. We don’t know what will happen but I’m sure every Liverpool supporter would love that as well.
I left because I wasn’t playing regularly, I just wanted to play football. I didn’t want to sit on the bench and that’s what you’ve got to look at, I left here to go to Leeds United because I wanted to be playing week in, week out.
Also, I looked at (Robbie) Fowler and (Stan) Collymore, they were doing really well together, and I didn’t want to be sitting on the bench. I was enjoying my football and that’s the reason why I went to Leeds.
But that was my situation, it depends if you are happy sitting on the bench or not. But Mo’s not even got to that stage yet so no, there’s not really any reason for him to go yet.”
The former striker put Salah on the same level as Gerrard and called him ‘incredible’. The winger has won every trophy in his 6-year stint at Anfield and has been crucial for Klopp.
