Recent comments from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp about the atmosphere of Anfield has made former Red Dean Saunders uncomfortable and questioning him.
The Reds ran over West Ham United in their signature style as they thrashed the London side 5-1. The whole team did an excellent job to secure their place in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
Furthermore, the new-look Anfield celebrated the win in a great manner. Speaking on the official Liverpool FC website, the LFC boss praised the atmosphere by saying,
“I have to say, it’s long ago that I said it, I thought it in the first half a little bit when the boys played really exceptional, I was not overly happy, I have to say it now, with the atmosphere behind me.“
The German coach also demanded that the same amount of cheer and excitement is maintained on Saturday against Arsenal.
“We need Anfield on their toes from the first second [against Arsenal on Saturday] – without me having an argument with the opposition coach, whatever. We need you from the first second.
If you really want, if it’s too much football in December, I don’t know, sorry, we have to play it as well. But if you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else.”
Klopp said.
This demanding nature of Klopp has created different opinions in expert circles. While Gary Neville agrees with the manager, former Reds striker Dean Saunders disagrees with the German.
Dean Saunders criticizes Anfield comments from Klopp
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Saunders said,
“That’s the first time I’ve ever heard that from a Liverpool manager. Giving the crowd a team talk? Give your ticket to someone else?!
That stadium, that’s the best stadium I’ve ever played in. It’s full every week nearly, the crowd are behind the team every week. That’s the first time I’ve heard a manager saying that.”
To be very fair, Klopp’s ambitious urge is well justified considering the fact that he has been delivering consistently good performances across the years.
Moreover, in a crucial match against Arsenal, the roaring Anfield crowd can play a vital role in making a difference.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
