Former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is ‘ready to quit’ Al-Ahil in January after just 6 months of leaving Anfield and could return to Liverpool.
The Brazilian got off to a perfect start with his current employers, scoring a hat-trick on his debut. However, he failed to score in his subsequent 9 league matches and has been limited to 6 substitute appearances.
Moreover, the 32-year-old has captained Al-Ahli in the first 10 Saudi Pro League fixtures. Indeed, owing to this stat, it has been a shock to see Firmino out of favour and forced to go off the bench.
Firmino to leave Al-Ahli and might return to Liverpool
It is now understood that the 2019 Champions League winner is unhappy with the current situation. Moreover, he seeks a resolution when the transfer window opens next week.
As per Football365, the Brazilian prefers a return to Europe or a chance to play in his home country. Moreover, a report by Daily Mirror suggested staying in Saudi could be on the cards should the Liverpool hero have a change of heart. Two Saudi clubs, Al-Fateh and Al-Ettifaq, are interested in the Brazilian.
The latter is managed by Steven Gerrard, who has already brought former Reds Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum to his club. On the prospect of adding Firmino, Gerrard said he is a massive fan of the forward.
“I obviously know Bobby extremely well, I’ve been a massive fan. I’ve followed him for years. At the moment, he’s Al-Ahli’s player, so it’s very difficult for me to comment on that situation. But I’ve loved Bobby Firmino since the first day I watched him and I’m a huge fan.”
Al-Ettifaq have endured a sluggish start to the Saudi Pro League season. They are 26 points adrift of league leaders Al-Hilal after 18 matches played.
