Liverpool have been linked to a move for the Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, who is rated at around £52m and targeted by Arsenal.
As per a report from Jornal de Noticias via Paisley Gates, Liverpool are hoping to sign the 22-year-old defender.
The defender has a £52 million release clause in his contract, and Sporting CP will only sanction his departure if the exit clause is triggered. Meanwhile, Liverpool will also face competition from Tottenham and Arsenal.
Liverpool targeting Inacio this January
Inacio has established himself as a critical player for the Portuguese club and would be a great addition to Liverpool. He could be the ideal replacement for Joel Matip, who is currently sidelined for the rest of the season.
The 22-year-old is versatile enough to operate as a left-back and could be a quality alternative to Robertson. Moreover, a move to the Premier League will likely be an attractive prospect for the Portuguese.
Tottenham have Romero and Van de Ven as defenders and want to add reinforcements. Meanwhile, Arsenal need to bring in a top-class partner for William Saliba. Hence, Inacio could sort out their defensive unit for the foreseeable future.
As for Liverpool, they are in a sort of crisis after an injury to Kostas Tsimikas. The backup left-back to Andy Robertson was injured in a 1-1 draw against Arsenal. He suffered a suspected broken collarbone.
With Joe Gomez now the only available option at left-back, Klopp needs reinforcements in January. The Portuguese defender has been linked to Liverpool for a long time now and is seen as a great prospect.
Moreover, with Van Dijk and Konate in the ranks, it would be a great learning platform for the 22-year-old. Also, with a release clause set at £52m, Inacio emerges as a strategic investment to fortify Liverpool’s backline and navigate the challenges of a tightly contested season.
Thus, Inacio’s potential arrival at Liverpool promises a transformative boost to the team’s defence.
