Liverpool are reportedly still working on making a breakthrough with Romeo Lavia, with Southampton unwilling to budge from their £50m asking price.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the Reds remain in talks with the Championship side over the signing of the Belgian international. Liverpool are hopeful of lowering Southampton’s demands for the 19-year-old.
Liverpool discussing the fee for Romeo Lavia
Southampton have stuck to their guns this summer over Lavia’s asking price. The Saints want £50m for their star asset, a figure that Liverpool are simply unwilling to match.
Indeed, Liverpool could soon break and accept Southampton’s demands with Fabinho due to leave for Saudi Arabia next week.
And ongoing talks could soon develop into something serious with the Saints.
“Jordan Henderson to Al Ettifaq is now almost a done deal – a verbal agreement was already in place and I can now also confirm that the player did his medical on Friday night. The deal will be signed next week, so it’s almost completed – Henderson will is leaving Liverpool.
Nothing is advanced in terms of bids or club-to-club negotiations, still, contacts are taking place with the player’s agents and they are trying to understand the final price tag.
Southampton always wanted around £50m but Liverpool are hoping for a different fee. He’s not their only target, but he is a concrete one, and Liverpool are still there.”
Fabrizio on Lavia
Southampton are not letting up on Lavia anytime soon, with the Saints, rightly, sticking to their £50m asking price for the midfielder.
And Liverpool could soon crack under the pressure. With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson set to recoup Liverpool close to £55m next week.
Lavia could be a realistic replacement for the midfield duo, especially when considering the Belgian’s age.
Moreover, these two sales will give Southampton an extra incentive to stick to their £50m demand for Lavia.
