Brighton have decided that they only want to sell Moises Caicedo to Liverpool, and will reject any move from Chelsea.
The Reds are in the endgame of signing Caicedo, having had an enormous bid accepted by Brighton. But after revelations that the player only wants to join Chelsea, things are now at a standstill.
And according to Football Transfers, things would stay that way until the Ecuadorian agrees to join Liverpool. They claim that the Reds have actually been in ‘persistent secret negotiations’ with Brighton recently. And they were ‘waiting for the right moment’ to finalize things.
However, this stance by his club is said to have infuriated the midfielder. He is reportedly ‘holding firm’ that he’ll only join Chelsea, snubbing Liverpool.
Nevertheless, Brighton’s position apparently remains. They’re said to be keen to do business with Liverpool and only Liverpool owing to their strong relationship with the Reds.
Caicedo, Chelsea, and Liverpool are now in the endgame?
The Caicedo saga has been a tasty watch as we currently find ourselves in a weird stance. The highest bidders are Liverpool, Brighton wants the money from Liverpool, they want the player to move to Liverpool, but the player wants Chelsea.
However, Brighton’s decision is clear: sell the player to the highest bidder. This means that Chelsea needs to up their bid and exceed the £111m bid by Liverpool to secure the player’s signature.
Although, Chelsea are possibly hoping that Caicedo’s stance will push Brighton into accepting a lower fee. With the player refusing to go anywhere else, that may be a reasonable assertion.
But with the simple rule of business, we all know that the Seagulls wouldn’t budge. Unless Liverpool’s offer is bettered, they’ll happily keep Caicedo until it is.
Moreover, reports earlier today suggest that Chelsea are open to bettering Liverpool’s record bid. If that is to happen, the Reds might have to lose out on yet another transfer target this season.
