Alisson, who hasn’t featured for Brazil since their World Cup exit in December, is poised to make a return to the starting lineup as Ederson of Manchester City withdrew from the squad due to a left foot injury sustained in a 4-4 draw against Chelsea.
Alisson, the Liverpool goalkeeper, had been on the bench for six out of seven games played by Brazil since the World Cup, with Ederson taking the No. 1 role.
Alisson to replace Ederson in Brazil’s starting XI
For Liverpool fans, Alisson’s absence from international duty has been a relief as it minimized the risk of injury, but now he is set to play for Brazil in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia on November 17 and Argentina on November 22.
Bento from Athletico Paranaense has been called up as Ederson’s replacement, but it is Alisson who is expected to end his stint on the sidelines.
Ederson’s injury, sustained 13 days before Liverpool’s visit, puts him ‘in doubt’ for the match against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
However, City players are known for quick recoveries, and there is an expectation of seeing Ederson at the Etihad on November 25.
Despite the tight schedule, Alisson is also expected to line up as Brazil faces Argentina on November 22, with little time to prepare as the match concludes in the early morning.
Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, is also dealing with injuries to Nathan Ake and John Stones, Mateo Kovacic’s withdrawal from international duty due to fitness issues, and Kevin De Bruyne‘s long-term absence.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
