Former Jamaican international Robbie Earle says he is disappointed in Liverpool’s loss against Tottenham Hotspurs but praises goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The Reds’ 8-game undefeated spell this season came to an end after a controversial loss against Tottenham this weekend.
Several refereeing mistakes including the disallowed goal of Luis Diaz, and the misjudged red cards of Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota cost the Merseysiders three points which would have put them on the 1st place.
Although they managed to equalize and defend the goal after going down to 10 men and 9 men respectively, an unfortunate own goal by Joel Matip made it 2-1.
However, the team’s performance that night was quite commendable and showed their character and willingness to win.
Robbie Earle praises Alisson
Speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, co-hosted by Robbie Mustoe, the former Wimbledon FC player exclaimed how well Alisson has been playing. He said,
“Alisson, by the way, has come up with two or three magnificent saves that many keepers in the league don’t get near to his form recently.
Newcastle away, brilliant save from Almiron; last weekend, brilliant save again. He’s back sharp, on top of his game, as the team were. I was so disappointed for Liverpool.”
It is very true that the Anfield giants have been able to keep their form alive so far because of consistently excellent performances from Alisson.
The Brazilian international has made unbelievable saves this season which have kept them in the title race.
The defense has mostly been out of form since last season’s last few games. Out of the 9 games they have played this season, the Reds have conceded first in the 8 of them.
So a defensive signing is pretty urgent in these circumstances and the sooner it comes the better.
Because depending on Alisson’s brilliance and comeback-worthy performances from the attack will not win them any title this season.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
