Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves is in awe with the latest Liverpool signing Wataru Endo who debuted against Bournemouth.
Liverpool had an absolute bargain signing Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart. The Reds signed the Japanese and Stuttgart captain for just £16M.
This obviously somewhat sorted the depth issue that the Merseysiders were facing recently. And it also gave Klopp and the team a much-needed mental boost.
However, the club is still trying to sign another midfielder which would be a statement signing before the transfer window closes on September 1.
The 30-year-old made his debut on Saturday against Bournemouth at Anfield. Endo came onto the pitch in the 62nd minute of the game.
His introduction was in a rough circumstance as Alexis Mac Allister got sent off on his Anfield debut. The Japanese international replaced Cody Gakpo for the rest of the game.
He had a positive impact during the time he played as the Merseysiders saw off the game with a comfortable 3-1 lead.
Owen Hargreaves in love with Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo
In the 28 minutes he played, Endo was able to put 1 tackle and 1 interception. He also had 2 clearances while completing an 88.2% pass completion rate.
While speaking about his performance, Hargreaves told Premier League Productions,
“He’s not a sexy name, like people wanted, but he is an impactful player. I really like him.
He will be a six for them.Out of possession he is brilliant, in terms of pressing the ball.
He’s amazing in the air considering he’s only 5ft 10, honestly. His vertical, it’s insane. He was captain of Stuttgart, captain of his country. An absolute leader.
He cost €20m (£16m) because he was 30 years old and had one year left [on his contract], but I think they’ve got a bit of a steal there Liverpool.”
This was definitely his first game and many more are to come. And hopefully, he lives upto all the expectations which are on him until we sign another first-team defensive midfielder.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
