Trent Alexander-Arnold laughed off the abuse hurled by Luton fans during the Liverpool-Luton encounter as Szoboszlai had an afternoon to forget.
It was an unexpected result with Liverpool only clinching a point in their draw away from home at Luton. It was the man in the news for the Reds, Luis Diaz with the 95th minute equaliser for Klopp’s side. He revealed an emotional message in solidarity with his father who isn’t yet safe.
After the late goal from Chong, the hosts were pretty confident of producing one of the shocks of the season. However, like most of the Liverpool games, they didn’t budge and scored an equalizer.
Diaz was mobbed by his teammates at the full-time whistle. They continued to support him and his family during a harrowing situation involving his father in South America.
Liverpool moments during the game vs Luton
Alisson Becker was involved in a brilliant piece of play that is all too common for him. He looked to start a quick counter-attack and swung the ball towards Mo Salah wide on the right.
This put the pressure on the Luton defenders and with a slightly better touch, Salah would have been in for a chance.
In another incident, Trent was given the Luton fans treatment as they hurled abuses at the right-back.
However, it was a pretty harmless incident and the Englishman laughed it off, seeing the amusive side of it.
But for the Hungarian, it was not a good outing as Dominik Szoboszlai had an off day at the weekend.
The 23-year-old struggled to exert his considerable influence on the match. Moreover, it was evident that his frustrations got the better of him as he kicked the ball away. However, he wasn’t cautioned despite his showing his frustration.
In the end, however, the Reds avoided defeat, thanks to Luis Diaz, in what was an emotional afternoon for the Columbian.
He had to sit out the Forest game and the Bournemouth game to await updates from his homeland.
However, with his mother now safely back in custody, we await the same regarding his father. It is in times like these that the footballing community comes together.
And the support for the Columbian has been unwavering.
FA make decision on Luis Diaz shirt message after scoring equalizer against Luton
Luis Diaz scored a crucial equalizer in his first game since his parents were kidnapped, with the Liverpool star revealing a message that called for his father to be released.
It has been a stressful couple of weeks for the Columbian as he has been in an emotional turmoil involving his parents.
The former Porto man’s parents were kidnapped back in Columbia by a Columbian rebel group, 9 days ago.
However, his mother was quickly released but his father remains missing with the ELN rebels demanding ‘security guarantees’ in exchange for his freedom.
Hence, after scoring the equalizer for Liverpool, he lifted his shirt to send a message in support of his father.
The message revealed ‘freedom to Papa’ and he was mobbed by his teammates, who were in solidarity with the Columbian.
Moreover, the FA also stated that they won’t be charging the Columbian despite the Liverpool star technically breaking the rules.
FA will not charge Liverpool star, Luis Diaz
As per FA rules, players should refrain from wearing or revealing any item of clothing displaying any personal message. Usually, that would put Diaz in line for a potential charge from the governing body.
However, according to the Daily Mail, bosses have decided to not charge him given the exceptional circumstances. Moreover, they also claim that the forward did not fully remove his shirt.
Diaz made a public plea for his father to be released and urged the rebel group to fulfill their promise to let his dad go.
“Here’s not the player speaking. Today’s Lucho Díaz, the son of Luís Manuel Díaz. Mane, my dad, hard working man, family pillar… he’s now kidnapped. I ask ELN to release my father as soon as possible.
I also ask the international associations to work on that in order to guarantee his freedom. Every second, every minute we’re more worried. We’ve no words to describe our family’s terrible feelings, and it will be the same as long as he’s not back at home.
I beg you to release my father right now, respecting his integrity. I want to thank to all Colombians and also the international community for your support. This goal is for the freedom of my father and all the kidnapped in my country. Thank you all for your support.”
What is the response by ELN?
The ELN, a radical Marxist-Leninist group, has taken responsibility for the kidnapping. But they have demanded “security guarantees” in a new statement released in response to Diaz’s goal and public pleas.
“On November 2, we informed the country of the decision to release Mr. Luis Manuel Díaz, father of the player Luis Díaz. From that date, we began the process to accomplish this as soon as possible. We are making efforts to avoid incidents with government forces.
The area is still militarised, they are carrying out flyovers, disembarking troops, broadcasting and offering rewards as part of an intense search operation. This situation is not allowing for the execution of the release plan quickly and safely, where Mr. Luis Manuel Díaz is not at risk.
If operations continue in the area, they will delay the release and increase the risks. We understand the anguish of the Díaz Marulanda family, to whom we say that we will keep our word to release him unilaterally, as soon as we have security guarantees for the development of the liberation operation.”
