Uruguay’s head coach, Marcelo Bielsa, has given an update on the injury status of Liverpool’s star player, Darwin Nunez, citing “muscular difficulties” as the reason for his recent struggles.
Nunez began Uruguay’s World Cup qualifying match against Ecuador but was substituted at half-time, a decision that surprised many.
The former Leeds United manager explained that Nunez had arrived with preexisting muscle issues, which limited his performance during the game.
He felt it was necessary to replace him because Nunez had exerted himself too much, both in pressing the opponent and attacking during the previous match.
Despite his recent challenges with the national team, Nunez has been in excellent form for Liverpool this season.
He notably delivered a heroic performance against Newcastle by scoring two crucial goals off the bench, securing a win for Liverpool, who were playing with only 10 players at the time.
Additionally, he contributed an assist in Liverpool’s latest match, a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Darwin Nunez set to miss Wolves game due to injury?
Liverpool are set to return to action against Wolves on Saturday, but it remains uncertain whether Nunez will be fully fit for this upcoming clash.
Liverpool acquired Nunez in an £85 million deal last summer, and he has impressed with 17 goals and five assists in his first 46 games for the club.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, praised Nunez highly for his recent performance against Newcastle and mentioned that the striker was unhappy about starting the game on the bench.
“Nunez with a super performance. I don’t think we needed too much luck. We calmed the game down and brought on Darwin, he was obviously fired up from not starting. We had really good football moments. It was a super mature performance.
It’s clear [Nunez is] not happy [about not starting]. It’s early in the season, we need to find stability and results.”
Said Klopp
This dissatisfaction seemed to have motivated Nunez, as he came on as a substitute with renewed determination and made a significant impact in the match against Newcastle.
Liverpool is my Religion and Anfield is my Church. 17th May 1996 the date I had my blood coloured red. The one you love the most you can not live without it and that is football to me.
