Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has debunked all rumours which claimed Liverpool might have sent Darwin Nunez to La Liga this summer.
The Merseysiders started the season in an incredible manner with only a draw and three wins in the opening 4 games. And the most exciting win came against Newcastle United with a 2-1 scoreline.
Although the game had several memorable moments, the most exciting one was Darwin Nunez coming off the bench and winning it for the Reds with two late goals.
Thereafter, the hero of the match has been the talk of the town. However, the latest scoop has indicated that all of these would not have happened.
Darwin Nunez would have moved to La Liga?
According to a latest report via Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool were eager to get Joao Felix on loan from Atletico de Madrid this summer. And this would have been done with a swap deal of Nunez going to the other side of Madrid.
However, the Portuguese international had been firm on his desire to join Spanish giants Barcelona. And Felix joined the reigning La Liga champions on a season-long loan from Atletico de Madrid.
While writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano turned down all reports confirming the rumour. He wrote,
“Darwin Nunez – Despite rumours about a swap deal for Joao Felix being discussed, Liverpool never wanted Darwin Nunez to leave this summer.
It was very clear on club side, the board and also the manager decided to keep Darwin in very clear way.
Darwin was very happy with Liverpool considering him untouchable.”
The Uruguayan forward has been an instrumental player for this Liverpool team. Nunez is quite able to play anywhere across the frontline.
Although he did not get much playtime last season after joining in the summer of 2022, still he managed to make 42 appearances and had 20 goal contributions.
And now he is a regular starter in this Merseyside team. So there is no chance that the club will sell him anytime soon now.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
