Ian Wright, the former Arsenal striker, has words of support for Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker, according to BBC MOTD analyst Ian Wright, might go off next season.
The former Arsenal player said on BBC One‘s Match of the Day that Nunez ought to have scored more goals for Liverpool against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday night at Anfield.
Nunez, who moved from Benfica last summer for an initial £64m, has at times this season faced criticism for the opportunities he has squandered.
Ian Wright on Darwin Nunez
Wright expressed his belief that Nunez might improve and burst next season when analyzing the opportunities the striker lost against the Bees. The MOTD analyst continued by calling the striker’s statistics for Liverpool this year “unbelievable.”
In 19 Premier League starts for the Reds this season, the 23-year-old striker has nine goals and three assists. The Uruguayan striker has four goals this season for Jurgen Klopp’s team in five UEFA Champions League appearances.
Nunez had a couple of nice opportunities to score against Brentford at Anfield on Saturday night in the Premier League game, but he didn’t take advantage of them. Instead, he worked hard, connected with his offensive colleagues, and caused problems for the Bees’ defense.
Ian:
“Next season he will liven himself up, get more intense in respects of his goalscoring, and then he will finish those. I am not worried for him.”
A low-scoring win for the Scousers
Liverpool improved their prospects of placing in the top four of the Premier League standings this season with a 1-0 victory against Brentford.
In the 13th minute of the game, Mohamed Salah scored the lone goal. The fan-favorite Liverpool player scored with a sloppy close-range finish that set Anfield records.
In the battle for the Champions League spots, Jurgen Klopp’s squad is placing tremendous pressure on Manchester United. Klopp has downplayed prospects, claiming that his club had more time to string together a run when they hit a rough patch in the 2020–21 season.
