Liverpool target, Manuel Ugarte has confirmed his move to PSG after Chelsea battling out for the player with the Parisians.
It has been confirmed for over weeks that the Uruguayan would be heading towards Paris after leaving Sporting.
However, there weren’t any official confirmation up until now as many clubs continued to be linked to the player. Many reports also suggested that Unai Emery wanted to bring the 22-year-old to the Midlands.
Meanwhile, other clubs like Chelsea, Newcastle Utd, and Tottenham along with Liverpool were after the player’s signature.
Ugarte, however, has now broken his silence at last. He has confirmed after Uruguay’s 4-1 hammering of Nicaragua on Wednesday that the French capital will be his eventual destination.
Liverpool target Ugarte joins PSG
While talking to Record, he said that he was going to a ‘giant club’ in PSG.
“The truth is that, now, I have to rest a little. And then (I will) start with everything at PSG. I’m going to a giant club. I haven’t even fully realised that yet.”
As per reports, the Ligue 1 champions have activated the release clause of the midfielder of £51m. The French club are looking to form a fresh-looking squad after a disappointing season as far as the Champions League is concerned.
Also, with Messi leaving for Inter Miami, the club have also signed Kang-In Lee also arriving after a superb campaign at Real Mallorca in La Liga.
The departure of Messi coincides with the arrival of the Uruguayan. This is a matter of disappointment for the midfielder who said that he would have loved to play with the Argentine.
“It’s true that Messi is leaving. It would have been incredible to play with him, but these are football things. But I’m very happy.”
Liverpool once frontrunners for the midfielder’s signature
After an incredible season with Sporting, he quickly became Europe’s most promising defensive midfielder. Many clubs were tracking Ugarte and one of them was Liverpool.
The player’s agent also confirmed the Reds’ interest in the player. While talking to a journalist, he went on to imply that Liverpool had shown interest in the player.
“It’s almost certain that he won’t stay. It’s sure he will leave. Liverpool? There’s a lot of talk, but they are not the only club (interested). There are others. There are many offers on the table. I believe that, in 15 days, the situation will be resolved.”
What followed was a bit of chaos with the player going back and forth between Chelsea and PSG. The player has however, confirmed his next destination and Liverpool are now targeting Kone and Thuram.
