Arsenal travels to Anfield this weekend to face Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Virgil Van Dijk could make his appearance after missing the clash against Chelsea.
The Gunners will face Liverpool after winning against Leeds last weekend, who would be getting a full week’s rest. Whereas, the Reds would be playing the league leaders after a goalless draw against Chelsea, when the two faced off on Tuesday.
This means that the Merseyside club would only get 4 days of rest and having not won in the last 3 games, the pressure is building on Klopp.
On the contrary, the North London club are in great form having won their last 5 games in the league. They retained their 8-point lead over Man City with a victory over Leeds last weekend.
Meanwhile, things have gone downhill for Liverpool after thumping their bitter rivals 7-0. Defeats to Bournemouth, Man City, and a draw against Chelsea have left them in 8th place. They are currently 7 points off Spurs in the 4th place and have a game in hand.
Van Dijk a possibility for Arsenal clash?
Klopp made 6 changes to the squad that lost at Etihad saying that ‘some of them needed rest’. Van Dijk was one of the omissions to the squad as he missed the clash through illness.
However, while talking to Sky Sports, Klopp hinted that the Dutch defender could make the starting XI against Arsenal.
“I think he will be ready for the weekend, yes.”
According to football.london, the 31-year-old is set to be back from his illness to face Arsenal, this weekend.
This would be a huge boost for the Reds as the former Southampton defender could prove to be the difference for Liverpool against Arsenal.
Even though the Gunners haven’t won at Anfield in over 10 years, their form under Arteta has been amazing. Many pundits have also claimed that they would win the league if they maintain the same form in these final stages.
Liverpool are one of the main hurdles for the Gunners and If they manage to beat the Reds, it would be very hard for Man City to catch up.
