Liverpool have earned a sum of £105 million in prize money from their Champions League run, last season, as reported by Football Insider.
The Reds earned more than any other English club as they reached the finals of the elite competition. However, they lost to Real Madrid in the final by a goal to nil.
Liverpool missed out on an extra £4m with their failure to beat the Spanish giants, who earned £117 m as per the reports.
As per the data released by UEFA in their 2021-22 financial report, the Reds earned £13.7m as a starting fee, even before a ball was kicked.
Furthermore, an additional £20m was added from their coefficient ranking. A further £15.7m was added from the market pool, which is distributed in accordance with the proportional value of the TV markets represented by individual clubs
Moreover, Liverpool won 6 straight games in the group stage. Hence, they earned the maximum amount in performance bonuses, estimated to be around £15.9m.
Also, payments of £8.4m, £9.3m and £11m were made in the round-of-16, quarter-final, and semi-final, before a final top-up for reaching the final in Paris.
However, the Reds in contrast have lost a total of around £30m this season. That is because the Reds lost to the Spanish side in the RO16.
With respect to the English clubs last season, Man City earned the second most with £96m.
Liverpool to miss out on the Champions League for the next season?
It has been a tough ride for the 6 times European Champions as they currently sit in 10th place. They are currently 13 points behind Man Utd and face an uphill battle in qualifying for the next season’s UCL.
Currently, they have been knocked out of the competition by Real Madrid and are out of every single competition. The Reds face the Gunners this Sunday and they would hope to take all three points.
