Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in signing the current Liverpool backup goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, after securing the deal of James Milner.
As per the Independent, the Seagulls have joined in the race, along with 2 other PL clubs, to sign Kelleher. The other two clubs are said to be Tottenham and Brentford, who are also in the mix to sign the 24-year-old.
The player looks set to leave Liverpool this summer and is looking for a new club where he can utilize his potential. He has been Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper for three seasons and he is set to be the number one for a different club.
The Republic of Ireland international is at the stage of his life where he should be playing first-team football regularly. This could be possible if he would leave Liverpool as Alisson is untouchable.
Besides, after signing Milner on a free transfer, De Zerbi’s side are now interested in the Liverpool number 2. The deal is not yet officially declared by both parties. But as per Italian journalist, Fabrizio, the Seagulls have completed the signing of the 37-year-old.
Moreover, Brighton number 1, Robert Sanchez has been replaced at the crunch part of the season. He has been replaced by the Englishman, Jason Steele. This is supposedly due to Jason’s ability to start the attack from behind, which suits De Zerbi’s gameplay.
The 25-year-old Sanchez is not so good with his feet while the 32-year-old Steele is better than the Spaniard. However, now the Brighton manager is looking at the 24-year-old Irishman who suits his gameplay.
Kelleher should join Brighton if they qualify for Europe
Kelleher is looking for clubs to join for the next summer and he has few PL clubs to choose from. Moreover, he would be interested to join the club that would qualify for Europe.
With Tottenham, Brentford, and Brighton in the mix, the player needs to choose his next club.
However, with the current managerial improbability at Spurs, it wouldn’t be such a good option for Kelleher to join the North London outfit.
If he is to choose between Brentford and Brighton, the latter looks more likely to qualify for Europe.
Even though the South Coast PL side lost horribly to Everton yesterday, it hasn’t completely hampered their hopes of European qualification. They still have 2 games in hand and Brentford are 2 spots behind Brighton, at 9th.
It seems more likely that the Seagulls are closer to the European spot than the Bees. The Liverpool man could be Brighton’s number 1 and compete potentially for continental football.
