According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Torino defender Perr Schuurs would favour a move to Liverpool amid interest from Napoli.
The 23-year-old joined Torino from Ajax last summer, and he was one of their best performers.
His progress has attracted interest from Serie A champions Napoli. However, reports claim that the appeal to join Jurgen Klopp’s side is much higher for the player and his agent.
As per reports, the Reds failed with a £26m bid for the defender earlier this month. It is reported that the Italian side are expecting £34 million to sell him this summer.
Perr Schuurs to Liverpool: A good signing?
Schuurs was linked with a move to Anfield and Liverpool last summer. But Torino showed more interest in signing him. The Italian side helped him realize his potential and now he is ready for the PL.
The Dutchman had a great debut season in Serie A and completed 88 percent of his passes. He won 1.7 tackles and 4.1 duels and more than 3 clearances per outing for the Turin club.
He is definitely enjoying the best phase of his career in Italy. And now has the opportunity to pursue a bigger challenge away from Torino this summer.
Moreover, the recent Serie A champions, Napoli would be a great destination for the 23-year-old. However, he would learn a lot alongside his national counterpart, Van Dijk at Liverpool.
The Reds need a quality signing at the back as only Van Dijk and Konate are the regular centre-backs for Klopp. As of now, their backups remain to be Matip and Gomez.
Schuurs has all the attributes to become an elite central defender. He has a strong aerial presence and could be considered as a long-term replacement for Van Dijk. The Dutchman is now 32 years old and has shown signs of regression from last season.
Van Dijk made a few position errors in the recent campaign while also conceding a penalty. He will be aiming to put things right in the upcoming campaign, but his role could come under scrutiny if he goes through another mixed season at the back.
