Phil Thompson has urged that Wataru Endo deserves much more credit than he is getting now after the midfielder’s crucial performance last night.
The Japanese international came off the bench to score his first goal for the Reds. He scored the equalizer in the 87th minute which allowed the Reds to go on and win the game.
The Japanese was signed from Stuttgart for a mere £16m and was part of the major midfield rebuild. Although he was the captain for the German side, he has not been given a lot of starts at Merseyside.
Moreover, it’s been a slow start to life in the Premier League for Endo. He has seen most of his minutes for the Reds come from the substitute bench.
Endo deserves more credit, says Liverpool legend Thompson
However, speaking to TalkSport, Liverpool legend Thompson has now suggested that the midfielder deserves more credit after his impressive performance for the Reds against Fulham.
“Endo scored a superb goal. I don’t think he is getting the credit he deserves when he comes into it.”
With other world-class midfielders signed, Endo has a tough competition at Anfield. The likes of Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones were chosen ahead of the Japanese international.
Moreover, if at all Szoboszlai was fit enough to start, Endo might not have gotten a chance to play. But with his crucial goal, things might be changing for Endo in his Liverpool career.
Indeed, Endo is a brilliant midfielder who can become a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans in the years to come.
With the experience he has had, it would be vital for the PL title charge and Europa League as well.
Hence, this weekend could be the start of something wonderful for Endo. He could be a key player for Klopp, amongst his many youngsters.
