Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to sign a new contract in order to fend off interest from Liverpool after being linked to him in recent days.
Reports from Spain last week suggested that the Reds had failed in an enormous £100m bid for Bruno at the end of the transfer window.
However, the offer was turned down by Newcastle who are now on the verge of trying him down to a new deal.
Although stopping short of confirming Liverpool’s last-ditch proposal, they do report some interest from the Reds, too.
They claim that Liverpool have ‘enquired’ about signing Bruno in the last two transfer windows. To spoil the mood, Chelsea also are said to have done the same with their interest in the player.
The incredible midfielder has gained attention only from PL clubs but also the European giants, Real Madrid.
Hence, the Magpies are set to offer the player a contract extension to protect their valuable midfielder.
However, it’s claimed that the 25-year-old’s advisors have been adamant that a release clause be inserted in any new deal.
There’s no confirmation of that has been finalized, but it is reported that any such clause would be ‘well in excess’ of £100m.
Bruno set to sign a new contract to fend off Liverpool interest
Although it’s often been reported as being ‘impossible’ for Liverpool to sign Bruno from Newcastle, there have been links reporting the same.
Moreover, the Reds have been trying to do their part to potentially sign him.
With already 4 midfielders signed this season, there isn’t space for a new signing now. But with Thiago leaving surely next season, Klopp might look at the chance of adding another.
Bruno would be a great option for the Reds, in that case. Capable of playing in a deep or a more advanced role, the Brazil international can do a bit of everything.
Moreover, Newcastle reportedly adding such a high release clause is an indication of how good the player is.
With Eddie Howe describing him as an ‘outstanding’ player, Guimaraes is central to their project. And if Liverpool want to disrupt that, they’re going to have to pay big.
