Liverpool midfield maestro, Thiago Alcantara is now considering leaving the club this summer, and following the trend of moving to Saudi, he would rather consider returning to Spain.
As per a report from Sport, the Spaniard finds himself at the crossroad this year after a disappointing campaign last time. Although most of that campaign was marred by injuries, there is no doubt that he has fallen the pecking order.
As per the newspaper, the 32-year-old is currently working to get back in shape. However, he still has the idea of moving on and playing elsewhere.
Thiago to leave Liverpool and move to Saudi or Spain?
As we know that the Saudi clubs are signing elite European players who are either approaching to their prime or have already made a name for themselves in the World of Football. There have been rumours about a Saudi club showing interest in Thiago.
However, the report states that the Spaniard has turned a deaf eye to the Saudi links. Moreover, he is keen on returning to Spain where clubs like Real Sociedad, Sevilla, and Celta Vigo are interested.
This is another bombshell of news for the Reds’ supporters after hearing about their experienced midfielders’ imminent exit.
Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are all set to leave Merseyside after successful spells at Anfield.
The Liverpool skipper especially, would be leaving after a stunning 12 years at the club. Moreover, he has captained the side for 8 years and has led them to every trophy in sight.
Since then the Reds have been linked to various midfield options to replace the departing duo.
Now, however, they need to look for another replacement as Thiago is a doubt for the upcoming season.
As per reports, he ‘seriously appreciates’ the idea that his best choice would be to leave Liverpool and move on to somewhere new.
Moreover, with the additions of Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai and more to come, it seems unlikely that Thiago would get more game-time.
Thus, Thiago is considering moving on and would like to return to Spain if that is a possibility for him.
What are the options for the Spaniard?
Thiago had been hoping that the departure of Sergio Busquets at Barcelona would open up a space for him.
However, the Catalans instead signed Oriol Romeu and left Thiago with no chance of returning.
His hope is that options such as Real Sociedad, Celta Vigo, or Sevilla materialize into something concrete. Moreover, he has ‘turned a deaf ear’ to offers from Saudi Arabia while waiting for that to happen.
The option of a cheaper deal is there to be done as he’s in the final year of his contract with Liverpool. Also, they’ve not sat down to talk about a contract extension with him. Thus, it is likely that the Reds’ No. 6 might be on his way out of Anfield.
