Benjamin Pavard to Liverpool and Manchester City

Manchester City might give Liverpool a major setback as they eye the Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard. The Reds have him marked in their wanted list for a long time.

Liverpool and Manchester City rivalry have gained much significance in recent years. Especially after Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola took charge of the Reds and the Cityzens respectively. Many will say that this rivalry has become more fierce than the Liverpool United saga.

Both Klopp and Guardiola have immense respect for each other off the pitch. But when they are face-to-face, they leave very little space for each other. The Sky Blues and the Reds have competed neck and neck for the last few seasons.

But for the most part, City have been slightly better than the Merseysiders. Whether it has been with signings or with the results. Much of it can be attributed to City’s owners and their willingness to spend on the club. Whereas FSG have been a very calculative and cautious spender.

Liverpool have already missed out upon signing Josko Gvardiol as both player and Man City have agreed upon personal terms. Klopp had mentioned the RB Leipzig defender as his dream centre-back signing for the summer.

According to many reports, City will spend €100M for Gvardiol signing which will make him the most expensive defender of all time in the Premier League. But the Croatian is not the only player the Anfield giants will miss due to Manchester City’s interest.

Manchester City might snatch Benjamin Pavard deal ahead of Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano on his Twitter confirmed that the Sky Blues have entered the race for the Bayern star. The Frenchman is a versatile defender who can operate both in centre-back and right-back positions. His contract with the Bavarians expires in June 2024.

Man City will sign Pavard if Kyle Walker makes a move to Bayern. Both the clubs will soon discuss on the possibilities and looks like City will have to do a player-plus-cash deal for the 27-year-old.

On the other hand, Liverpool will severely suffer if they miss the opportunity to sign the French international.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been showing signs of being great in the midfield and in this situation, the Merseysiders need a proper right-back signing.

And considering the situation, Pavard would be a great signing. He has quite a lot of experience and also has the winning mentality which is much needed in the team.

Still, the deal has not happened between Bayern and City, so Liverpool might have a chance to beat City in the race for Pavard.
