Alexis Mac Allister has expressed that he is having some trouble in understanding the local dialect of Liverpool, Scouse and sometimes he does not understand his Scouser teammates.
After a successful transfer window this summer, the Reds are off to a good start to the 2023-24 season. They sit 3rd in the PL points table after 5 games with 13 points, winning 4 games and drawing only one.
The Merseysiders mainly focused on fixing their midfield after the departures of several senior midfielders. And they were able to sign 4 midfielders for a combined fee of just £145M.
The first signing of the summer was Argentine World Cup-winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. His signing cost the Anfield giants just £35M which is definitely a steal for a player of his caliber.
And since joining LFC, the 24-year-old has integrated into the team very well. His integration into the team would not have been an issue as the club already have several Spanish-speaking players.
But his English is also very good as he has spent a considerable amount of time in England. But the latest update has a different perspective to portray.
Liverpool star Mac Allister cannot understand Scouse
In an interview with Goal, Mac Allister admitted that he is facing some issues understanding the local dialect of Merseyside. He stated that he still hardly understands what his Scouser teammates are saying.
The interviewer asked the Argentine,
“Have you picked up any Scouse slang?”
The midfielder replied,
“No, still no. I need to improve on my Scouse, sometimes I can’t understand Trent or Curtis, but I will get there, I will get there.”
History has shown that players coming from other parts of the world face some issues understanding Scouser when they join. But eventually, they get along and start understanding the Liverpool dialect.
Joel Matip is a good example of that as he has learned the ways during his time at the Anfield side. And the Liverpool squad all call Kostas Tsimikas ‘The Greek Scouser’ for his willingness to learn and adapt.
So it is safe to say that Mac Allister will also learn his way through the Scouse dialect over time and it would be a great transition to have a watch on.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
