Liverpool have been looking to sign Mason Mount for a while now. However, Chelsea’s asking price might just have gone up.
The signing of Mason Mount for Liverpool may have just got a little bit tougher as the Chelsea owner looks to play hardball. The Reds will look to embrace a serious overhaul of their squad after a harshly frustrating season.
Jurgen Klopp appears to have decided against continuing the club’s long-running pursuit of Jude Bellingham. The reason being spending his transfer budget on multiple players than one superstar.
Chelsea midfielder Mount is one of the German’s priority targets this summer. However, Liverpool’s decision to not pursue Bellingham could now see Mount’s asking price skyrocket.
Liverpool expected to overpay for Mason Mount transfer
The 24-year-old is still under contract at Stamford Bridge but has rejected signing a new deal with the Blues. As per initial reports, the Englishman was valued at around £40-£50million this summer.
But according to Sky Sports News reporter Melissa Reddy, Chelsea owner Boehly is now looking for around £70 million to let go of his home-grown star.
It will be up to Liverpool to determine whether that price is high enough to pull away or not. Despite the funds available, the Reds will definitely look to negotiate a lower one.
It is also believed that Klopp wants to complete as many transfer deals as possible this summer. However, the Reds are concerned that other teams will follow Chelsea and attempt to impose a “Bellingham tax” on any of their own players that the Reds might want to bring to Anfield.
Despite joining Chelsea at the age of nine, Mount is very keen on moving to Merseyside. With Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner all out of contract in June, the England international could be the first piece of a new midfield next season.
