Liverpool are further looking to strengthen their midfield with reports suggesting they are ready to break the bank for Nicolo Barella.
After signing Mac Allister, the Reds are looking to bring in the Italian superstar who is said to be costing around £68m. The 26-year-old would be complementing the newly signed World Cup winner in the middle of the park.
However, it would mean that Klopp and Co. need to break the bank for the midfielder. This would be a strong move by Liverpool as the Inter Milan player is being chased by some of the other elite clubs as well.
The likes of Man City, Man Utd, and Newcastle Utd are some of them chasing the player. Given his contract situation at Inter Milan, he would be at the club till 2026.
There was another shocking transfer news from Romano involving another Italian to a PL club. The former Italian champions, AC Milan offloaded Sandro Tonali to Newcastle for a reported fee of £70m.
Moreover, the Magpies might pull out of the race to sign another £70m rated player.
Liverpool to edge rivals for Barella
As per Il Tempo, Liverpool are prepared to offer £68m to sign the Italian. Simone Inzaghi is currently weighing up the situation and is said to be seeking Barella’s replacement.
During 2022-23, the midfielder featured in 35 league matches and provided six goals and six assists. He also offers a great deal off the ball, winning 1.4 tackles per game.
Fabrizio Romano recently clarified Liverpool’s interest in the Italian. However, he did state that Liverpool still have some reservations over the transfer.
“Liverpool appreciate Nicolo Barella but they are not sure if the Inter midfielder is the kind of player they need. We will see in the next days and weeks,”
The Reds are also been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.
Liverpool conceded 47 goals last season, which was 21 more than they did in the previous campaign. Addressing this area will be crucial for Klopp and his side this summer.
Provided they do get their primary transfer targets over the line, there is no reason why the Reds can’t be challenging at the top of the PL next season.
