Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he expects Adrian to stay at Liverpool beyond the summer, who is currently the third choice goalkeeper.
He has dropped down the pecking order and is behind Alisson and Kelleher. However, with Kelleher poised to leave the club this summer, Klopp seems to be eager to keep the former West Ham number 1.
Adrian joined the Reds in 2019 from David Moyes’ team and has won the PL, Carabao Cup, Club World Cup, and Super Cup. He’s out of contract at the end of the season, having made just two appearances in two campaigns.
Adrian to stay at Liverpool
Liverpool have confirmed that Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Oxlade-Chamberlain will all depart this summer.
However, Liverpool are in talks with Adrian about a new contract. Moreover, Klopp believes the Spaniard will stay.
The German spoke in his pre-game press conference about the Spaniard’s situation at Anfield.
“Adrian, if we don’t say goodbye [already] what would that mean? That he probably stays, but if there is nothing in the papers then it is not decided yet finally.
We will not do it [say goodbye] just in case, but I have a rather good feeling that we [will] keep working together in that position.”
He featured for the Reds when Alisson was out injured. Adrian has 4 UCL appearances for the Reds. One of the most infamous matches was the 2nd leg of the round-of-16 against Atletico Madrid at Anfield in the 2019/20 campaign.
He was criticized for his performance as he let in rather easy goals in the extra time of the game and Liverpool were knocked out of the competition.
However, he helped Liverpool win the UEFA Super Cup finals against Chelsea in 2019. He saved the decisive penalty from Abraham and clinched the trophy for the Reds. Moreover, he has 14 appearances in the Premier League for the Reds.
