Latest reports have suggested that Liverpool are growing their interest in Swedish youngster Momodou Sonko and officials are negotiating with him.
The PL for the Reds will be resuming from the coming Sunday as they will face Bournemouth. Prior to this match the team got some time off to reflect upon what they have been doing and amend things.
As things stand now, the Merseysiders stand 1st in the PL points table with 45 points after 20 games played. But this lead is very fragile and they can lose this place very easily due to fierce competition.
Most of the teams will be returning in action with better squads, comprising of latest winter signings. The winter transfer window can prove to be an important event in the title race.
Even though most of the teams have taken advantage of this opportunity to bolster their ranks, the Anfield giants are still lacking in that aspect. They are yet to make any signing and frustration is growing within the fans regarding this.
Liverpool might sign Momodou Sonko
On a much positive note, some of the injured players are on their way to join the first-team very soon. But that does not satisfy the dire need of new signings.
Apart from the defense and the defensive-midfield positions, right-wing position needs to be worked upon. Mohamed Salah’s uncertain future at Merseyside definitely concerns Klopp. And that is where Momodou Sonko comes in.
Journalist Ola Gustavsson of Fotboll Direkt has claimed that the Reds are one of the clubs making ‘strong moves’ for BK Häcken winger. Some Liverpool officials have reportedly out to Gothenburg to hold talks with the Swedish youngster.
‘Secret meetings’ between the two parties have been ‘fruitful’, however, no concrete stage has been reached. Häcken Sporting Director Martin Ericsson has claimed that the 18-year-old is attracting ‘huge’ interests and will not be ‘cheap’.
The Swedish prodigy so far in his senior career has scored 14 goals and 8 assists in 44 appearances for Hacken. He averages a goal contribution in every two games (stats via Transfermarkt).
As Liverpool are known for their ability to nurture promising talents into world-class players, Sonko would really have to think whether he chooses to be a part of one of the best clubs in the world.
For LFC, they might not buy him immediately but try him out through some loan spells and test his potential. But their action needs to be quicker before some other club hijacks this deal.
