Liverpool have missed out upon the opportunity to sign young fullback Valentin Barco as Brighton and Hove Albion have secured the deal for the Argentine.
With the passing days, it is becoming more and more frustrating for the Merseysiders as they are yet to make any signing in the winter transfer window. The team desperately needs to sign atleast three players for each department except for goalkeeper.
As other PL rivals are making progress with new signings, it will become tougher for the Anfield giants to compete against them with their improved squads.
The defense is one of the most turmoiled aspect of LFC’s game plan. One more injury in defense will lead to them losing their foothold in every competition this season.
Liverpool miss out upon Valentin Barco as Brighton swoop in
Fabrizio Romano shared an update on Saturday via his official X (Twitter) handle which confirmed the deal. The journalist shared a picture of the player in the Seagulls outfit with the caption,
Understand Valentín Barco’s long term deal at Brighton has been signed with following details:
◉ Contract valid until June 2028.
◉ Club option to extend until June 2029.
Official statement expected soon as #BHAFC already paid $10m release clause to Boca Juniors.
Earlier reports had suggested that the Reds were interested in the Argentine left-back. Manchester City were also a potential suitor for the youngster.
Liverpool in particular could have benefited from this signing at the moment as both of their senior left-backs are quite ironically out due to the similar shoulder injury.
Even though Joe Gomez is operating on the left hand side of the pitch for now, he is not a natural at the position. So the addition of Barco would have made sense right now. But both the fullbacks will be available by the middle of February.
Then the 19-year-old would not have gotten any playtime whatsoever at Anfield. Thus him choosing Brighton will be beneficial for his own growth as he will get guaranteed match action.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
