The Reds are named in the race to sign Benfica star Enzo Fernandez.

Liverpool and Enzo Fernandez Shenanigans

Based on a report from the Catalan publication Sport, Liverpool are among the teams interested in signing the Argentine.

After acquiring Fernandez for the modest sum of €10 million (£8.7 million), Benfica are said to be “already rubbing their hands.” The Spanish club is noticing the interest shown by the aforementioned clubs. Fernandez has had a successful start to life in Lisbon. And if the value is concerned, he is now €50 million (£43.6 million) player.

Although the Reds are considered prospective bidders for the player, it appears that they will need to pay a substantial sum of money to free the 21-year-old Argentina international from Benfica’s control.

A potential signing for the Reds?

With Fernandez, Benfica has truly struck gold. It is a tribute to their wise and economical approach to the transfer market.

The 21-year-old has stolen the show and put up some astounding scores for the Portuguese juggernauts. He did it while playing as a number six in a double-pivot pairing.

Fernandez’s squad-leading performance for Benfica would carry over to the Liverpool team. And that too with an average of 90 correct passes per 100. Virgil van Dijk is his closest rival with an average of 69.9 perfect passes per 90.

The Argentine phenomenon; Robert Pires describes as having “strength” and “aggressiveness.” He has also generated an outstanding 7.0 huge chances created figures. It would again place him at the top of the Liverpool team.

If those stats, which lead the team, aren’t good enough, Fernandez averages 11.1 accurate long balls per 90 minutes. It is almost twice as many as Thiago Alcantara’s total of 6.2.

There is no denying that £107million Fernandez has profited significantly from Schmidt’s mass-possession playing style.

A deal that would strengthen the team for years to come! Klopp sees him as the next-generation general in the engine room.
