Liverpool are reportedly progressing to reappoint Michael Edwards while also looking to secure transfer expert Richard Hughes.
The beginning of the 2024-25 season could become a turning point in Liverpool‘s history, as the club will be going through some major changes by the end of this season.
Even though stale news, the imminent departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of the 2023-24 season from Anfield is still making headlines.
This signifies the impact the Reds will face in the coming days as they stride forward for further glory.
But the managerial change is not the only major change the club will go through this coming summer as the Merseysiders are also set to hire behind-the-curtains higher officials.
Departure of Jorg Schmadtke
The Anfield giants appointed Jorg Schmadtke as Sporting Director in the summer of 2023 and the German did not disappoint in his short tenure.
Responsible for the extensive midfield rebuild at the beginning of the 2023-24 season with his expertise in the German market, Schmadtke successfully orchestrated the signings of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch.
The midfield revamp has helped shape LFC’s performances this season as they are already challenging for several titles.
However, the German expert left his job at Anfield right after this winter transfer window closed and now the position is vacant.
Liverpool to Secure Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes
FSG is relentlessly working to rehire former Sporting Director Michael Edwards as reported by David Ornstein. The Englishman initially joined LFC in November 2011 as Chief Analyst.
He then went on to become Liverpool’s Sporting Director in November 2016 and fulfilled his position till June 2022.
Edwards, during his tenure at Anfield, helped the Reds complete the signings of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Alisson Becker.
The 44-year-old also made LFC profit with the selling of Rhian Brewster, Dominic Solanke and Danny Ward.
However, Edwards decided to leave Anfield in the summer of 2022 and his assistant Julian Ward left just after a year. Now if he returns, he will most definitely seek a higher role than Sporting Director.
Ornstein also revealed that if Edwards rejoins Liverpool, Richard Hughes might follow him, joining as Sporting Director. Hughes has also confirmed that he will leave Bournemouth at the end of this season.
A new report via Football Insider confirmed the Reds have opened talks with the Bournemouth guru which is ‘well down the line’ and are ‘closing in’ on his capture.
In the times of turmoil after Klopp’s departure, the clinical expertise of the two proven officials will be pretty helpful for Liverpool to continue their legacy.
