Liverpool star didn’t hold back on Tottenham defender’s Instagram post after controversial match
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has fallen out with his Argentine teammate Cristian Romero over an Instagram post after the Tottenham match.
The Merseysiders‘ 17-match unbeaten run in the PL came to an end this Saturday after the 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspurs. This was the first loss of the 2023-24 season after winning 7 consecutive matches.
Overall the match was entertaining but with drama spewing throughout. The Reds suffered the first blow of the match as Curtis Jones received a straight red in the 26th minute.
Soon after this mishap, in the 36th minute, Son Heung-min scored the opening goal of the match. However, Cody Gakpo leveled things up with an equaliser late in the extra time of the first half.
But misfortune struck the Anfield side again as Diogo Jota received a second yellow in the 69th minute which sent him off reducing them to 9 men. And after resisting Spurs till the end, they conceded an own goal by Joel Matip in the 96th minute.
What happened between Alexis Mac Allister and Cristian Romero?
Perhaps the most infuriating highlight of the match was VAR turning down the goal by Luis Diaz. PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) even apologised after the match claiming that it was a “significant human error”.
And there were several other refereeing mistakes that cost the club all three points which would have put them in the 1st place. After the match, Jurgen Klopp stated about the apology,
“We will not get points for it, so it doesn’t help.”
Celebrating the win, Tottenham defender Cristian Romero posted a series of pictures on Instagram with the caption: “This team has great spirit, great heart. always like this, all together.”
And LFC no. 10 Mac Allister without any hesitation commented on this post,
“Normal when you have 12 players.”
Romero replied to that in Spanish which translates to,
“Cry at home”
Although the comments were removed shortly by both parties after the dispute, the screenshots are doing the rounds on social media platforms.
This disagreement can lead to a major upset in the Argentinian dressing room. The two national colleagues will meet each other later this month for international duty so it will definitely be a little awkward for both of them.
