Liverpool have been busy doing business in the winter transfer window despite several rumours as other PL rivals sign desired targets.
As things stand in the PL after the 20th gameweek, the Merseysiders are the one topping the points table with 45 points. They lead by 3 points ahead of 2nd placed Aston Villa.
Despite their outstanding form and character this season, the growing concern for boss Jurgen Klopp is the number of players being injured as the second half of the season emerges.
Several key players have received crucial injuries, which can hamper their ambitions of winning the title. Moreover, the lack of squad depth, especially in defence and attack, should also worry Klopp.
However, the winter transfer window has presented the Reds with the opportunity to make amends. Still, the club is taking their time before spending money in the market, as they always do.
Liverpool have been quiet in winter transfer window
While most of their PL rivals are actively pursuing players and are signing or are on the verge of signing new players, LFC have been a silent observer.
The concerns are rising even higher as Tottenham Hotspurs move closer to signing a loan deal with former Chelsea striker Timo Werner, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Although the German attacker has scored only twice in 14 appearances across competitions, the London side is hopeful he will prove effective.
Contrary to that, the only work the Anfield giants have done is enquiring about certain players’ availability. Yes, the club most definitely should not hurry any signing; recent cases of Ozan Kabak or Ben Davies has shown that.
But they should also not be idle when so much work needs to be done in defence and attack. One more injury in the backline will mean Liverpool will have to say goodbye to all their title hopes.
On the other hand, even though Mohamed Salah has been an indispensable part of the team, there has been no adequate replacement for him. As his future at Liverpool remains questionable, a like-for-like replacement this winter would really help Klopp to work with.
But it is too early to jump to any conclusion as many days remain before this window closes. By the end of it, the Liverpool board will sign a few players to keep them alive in the title race.
