Liverpool are said to be looking to strike a deal with the Fulham midfielder, Joao Palhinha and his agents as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.
Although the Reds secured the signing of Wataru Endo, he hasn’t quite replicated what Fabinho did at Anfield.
As a defensive midfielder, the Brazilian was commendable for Klopp and became an important player.
Moreover, he certainly lacks a bit of physical strength while dealing with the robust tackles in the Prem. Also, the ongoing Thiago saga is a perfect reason for Klopp to go for a number 6 this transfer window.
Although the Reds are focused more on a defensive rebuild, one can’t help but feel that Palhinha would be a perfect fit at Anfield.
The 28-year-old burst onto the scene after his terrific first season at Craven Cottage. Since then, the Portuguese has been Liverpool’s prime target in the defensive midfield role.
However, they failed to land him this summer as he was rumoured to be joining Bayern. But that transfer collapsed and yet the German giants are said to be still in his pursuit.
Liverpool discussing a possible deal for Joao Palhinha
Palhinha’s journey in English football has been nothing short of impressive since he arrived at Fulham from Sporting.
As per TEAMtalk, Liverpool’s interest has led to discussions with Palhinha’s representatives, indicating a serious intent from the Reds.
Meanwhile, the London side are expected to demand a fee of £60m for the midfielder. However, Fabrizio Romano sheds light on a slightly lower figure of £55.8m for the player. Despite being 28 years old, the Portuguese could be a great addition for Klopp. He was previously lauded by critic and pundit, Robbie Savage to be a ‘fantastic player’.
Moreover, the fact that he has had great stats in the Premier League could be one of the reasons to say that he could shine at Liverpool.
But again, the midfielder would be turning 29 next July and spending that much money could be a thing to ponder over.
The maximum shelf life of his prime could be 3-4 years before he would leave Anfield. Hence, the whole Fabinho scenario might repeat for the Reds.
But the fact that he could spend his prime years at Merseyside could be another great reason too.
