Saudi club Al-Ittihad have shortlisted many defenders for signing before the transfer window ends and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is topping the chart.
The Anfield giants are on the verge of concluding their transfer business for this summer. The club headed into this transfer window with the intention of rebuilding the midfield.
They have been somewhat successful in doing so as the Reds signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo for around £111M.
The club is now awaiting another midfield signing and possibly a defensive signing to conclude this transfer window.
But they were also hit with departures of senior players. Apart from players leaving for free, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left Anfield to join the Saudi Pro League.
And the latest update has brought the Saudi scare back for the Merseysiders.
Al-Ittihad target Liverpool defender Joe Gomez
As per a new tweet by Fabrizio Romano, Saudi side Al-Ittihad are growing an interest in the English defender. He tweeted,
“Al Ittihad have a shortlist of defenders — Liverpool’s Joe Gomez is very high on that list.
Al Ittihad like Gomez as versatile player who can play anywhere across the back line.
Liverpool insist they’ve no intention to sell important players in the final days.”
Although Gomez has not been the starter for Jurgen Klopp, still has been an important squad player for the club.
Moreover, he made a huge impact as a substitute in the win against Newcastle after Van Dijk received a red card.
Also, Ibrahima Konate is still injured and Van Dijk will not be available for the next game against Aston Villa. So he would definitely have to start considering the bench strength.
Amid all this Liverpool and Klopp will not be thinking about selling him and should try everything to keep him on board.
However, the club should at least try signing a defender before the transfer window closes on September 1.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
