In an exclusive report, it has been revealed that Liverpool are edging closer to securing the signing of midfielder Khephren Thuram, who was previously a target for Newcastle United.
According to Football Transfers, Thuram has verbally agreed to personal terms with the Reds, indicating a potential agreement in principle while the two clubs negotiate the transfer fee.
Liverpool beat Newcastle on the Thuram deal
Thuram, a highly-rated 22-year-old talent from OGC Nice, has garnered attention with his impressive performances in Ligue 1. Despite Newcastle’s interest, the player and his representatives have been pushing for a move to Liverpool, which suggests that the Magpies may miss out on acquiring the French midfielder.
Newcastle’s head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, has previously expressed admiration for Thuram, and several media outlets, including The Athletic, The Telegraph, iNews, and The Mail, have highlighted the club’s interest. However, it appears that Liverpool are now closing in on securing a deal for the talented youngster.
Manu Kone on the Reds’ radar
If Liverpool can reach an agreement with Nice, Thuram could join recent signing Alexis Mac Allister at Anfield. Mac Allister, who recently completed a £35 million move from Brighton, is part of the club’s midfield rebuild, and Liverpool are reportedly targeting not only Thuram but also another French talent, Manu Koné, from the France Under-21 team.
Personal terms agreed?
According to Anfield Index’s Transfer Podcast, Liverpool sources have confirmed that personal terms have been agreed upon with both Thuram and Koné. The negotiations now hinge on reaching agreements with Nice and Borussia Mönchengladbach, the respective clubs of the two players.
Last week 90min reported Liverpool had opened talks with both players and Dave Davis told podcast host Trev Downey:
“It’s about the clubs; can you find the agreement with Nice for Thuram, can you do it with Mönchengladbach for Koné?
The terms are agreed. Thuram is top of the list. Look at what the journalists are saying Trev, look at the info that’s starting to come out.
We have to say no one really knows this apart from Jurgen and the regular LFC characters. However, look at what the journalists are saying Trev, the terms are agreed.”
Thuram’s arrival would provide Liverpool with a dynamic and commanding midfielder known for his athleticism, technical skills, and goal-scoring ability. Koné, on the other hand, is a promising Bundesliga player who could inject youthful energy and creativity into the Reds’ midfield.
Thuram may potentially gain an advantage from the shirt number selection of Alexis Mac Allister. The recent signing for Liverpool have chosen to wear the No 10 jersey, which leaves the No 8 vacant for any potential new arrivals to the team.
While the terms with the players have been agreed upon, the final steps of the transfer process are yet to be completed.
The Liverpool faithful eagerly await official announcements regarding these potential signings, which could significantly enhance the squad’s depth and signal the club’s ambitious plans for the upcoming season.
