Liverpool are ready to take on Arsenal in the weekender PL clash but Jurgen Klopp will be missing out on five key players.
Liverpool’s Fine Form
The Reds are dominating the PL right now as they lead the points table with 51 points after 22 games played. They are already 5 points clear off of 2nd placed and 3rd placed Manchester City and Arsenal respectively.
The Merseysiders have the golden opportunity to increase this lead by 8 points with their fine form on Sunday evening. However, the trip to Emirates Stadium might not be easy for the table-toppers.
Key Liverpool Players to Miss Arsenal Match
Five first-team players will not be present for the match. This can be a tricky task for manager Klopp to handle.
Mohamed Salah, LFC’s deputy in the attacking department, has been out of PL action for the whole of January. He was out to represent Egypt in AFCON.
But a muscle injury has sidelined him for some more time. Even though he shared pictures of him training, Klopp would let him have his time to recover fully before returning in action.
Wataru Endo is another player the Anfield giants will not have on Sunday. Similar to Salah, the Japanese captain was busy representing his nation in Asian Cup.
However, as Iraq threw Japan out of the competition with a 2-1 victory, the Japanese players are free to get back to their club duty.
But Endo will not make it in time for the Arsenal game so he is not in contention.
While speaking about young Spanish midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, Pep Lijnders said earlier in January,
“They [Thiago and Bajcetic] will not be ready for the end of this month. It will probably be going into the next month to train with us. But both [with] no complications, progressing.”
Ben Doak, a young gun in the Reds attack is also sidelined due to a lateral meniscus injury. That needed surgery and the severity is such that he will not be playing again in this season.
Joel Matip suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in December. Although he has gone through a successful operation and is going through rehab, he might not play another game for the Merseysiders as his contract ends by the end of the season.
But the recent form of Liverpool will definitely work as a motivation booster in the match.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
